Fort Erie Museum Services is pleased to offer curriculum based education programs for school as well as community groups. Our programming is designed to engage students in local history and provide many opportunities for learning, discovery and fun. Additional programs are currently under development, be sure to check back soon!
Here is a brief overview of the current programs offered:
The Fenian Raids and Confederation
The Fenian Raids and Confederation school program provides your students with an exciting and innovative look into an event of local and national importance. Two programming options exist: the Museum’s Educator can bring a “mini-museum” to your students, or your class can visit the Historical Museum. During the program, students will interact with art and artifacts, while participating in hands-on learning activities. An educator’s resource guide, containing background information, supplemental lesson plans and historical resources, is included with each program booked. (90 minutes).
Curriculum Connections
Grade 8: History - Confederation
Archaeology Adventures
Offered at Mewinzha, the Public Bridge Authority’s Gallery and Interpretive Centre, this program offers students a glimpse into the lives of the area’s earliest residents. A multi-media introduction to archaeology is followed by a hands-on activity; becoming “history detectives,” students will determine which artifacts are real, which are fake and what the objects might have been used for. A gallery tour connects student learning about early Aboriginal inhabitants of the Fort Erie area with the Museum’s rich archaeological collection. (90 minutes)
