Fort Eries legacy, which is passed on to future generations, is under our care. Fort Eries Museums collect artifacts unique to Fort Erie. We preserve these pieces of the communitys history by cataloguing the information related to each piece; repairing and restoring as necessary and instituting preventative conservation measures. The most costly artifacts to care for are the buildings themselves two turn-of-the-century train stations, a steam locomotive and caboose, an 1874 township hall and a mid-19th century cabin. We are fortunate in Fort Erie to have pieces of our unique history so visible to our citizens you dont need to visit a museum to experience our past, it is all around you , as an integral and vibrant part of the community. The collection consists of 21,000 local history artifacts, thousands of archival pages and photographs and 1.2 million archaeological artifacts. As part of our stewardship role we provide information on repair, restoration and conservation issues to the community -- answering citizens questions regarding their own antiques and homes. The Curator of Structural Heritage (Erin Wilson) oversees all programs relating to stewardship and can be contacted at 894-5322. |
